More football excitement despite World Champions crashing out

Karachi, (RTL): The last day of group matches at the World Cup with Brazil and Portugal heading Friday’s action.

On Thursday, former world champions Italy joined France in crashing out of the tournament losing 3-2 to Slovakia at Ellis Park. It was the first time both the winner and runner-up from the previous World Cup have failed to make it to the second round.

Italian fans expressed their disappointment in their team’s performance. “It was disappointing,” said a fan, “I am distraught, I want to go home and get into bed,” added another.

Slovakia fans were delighted with the players’ performance.

“First time in history that we qualify for the next stage,” said a fan. “It is a great day for Slovakia, Slovakia rules,” said another.

Cameroon disappointed African fans, losing 2-1 to Holland in Cape Town. Japan is through after a 3-1 victory over Denmark while Paraguay has advanced to the last 16 after a goalless draw with New Zealand.
