Changes expected in Pak cricket set-up

Mumbai: Several changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set-up are likely to take place under the chairmanship of former Pakistan Test player Ijaz Butt.

"I am yet to receive the government notification (about my appointment as new chairman) which may be delivered to me sometime tomorrow. But yes, I am being told about this posting and feel happy for the same," he said over telephone from his Lahore residence minutes after the decision was conveyed to him.

The 73-year-old takes over from Dr Nasim Ashraf who resigned from the post on August 18 on the same day when President Pervez Musharraf, patron of the PCB, relinquished power to avoid impeachment from the parliament.

"Yes there will be lot of changes in the board. Perhaps the new selectors will be named within few days," he further added.

Ijaz Butt wants to represent the PCB in the next week's ICC meeting taking place in Dubai. "Hopefully I shall be attending the meeting," he said.

Earlier, sports minister Nazmuddin Khan was preparing to represent the board at the ICC meeting. He was also willing to take a few cricketers (including Imran Khan, but because of Imran's pre-occupation, it would not have been possible for him) with him.

However, it would have been at the discretion of ICC President David Morgan, according to ICC's media manager Brian Murgatroyd.

"If a delegation attends the meeting Dubai, it is likely it would be allowed to attend a part of the ICC Board meeting that is of direct relevance to it.

"This occurred when a delegation from Zimbabwe Cricket came to Dubai for the July Board meeting. Peter Chingoka attended the entire meeting as Zimbabwe Cricket's President, but he was joined by two colleagues from his Board when Zimbabwe was discussed.

"The presence of individuals other than the directors is at the discretion of the ICC President," he further added.
